The History of Shirley Dyeing and Finishing Limited

As part of British Textile Technology Group, (BTTG), formerly Shirley Institute and WIRA, the Company has undertaken Dyeing and Finishing since 1981, when with a small staff of 6, the business concentrated on developing techniques and process routes, on short lengths of fabrics, for weavers, knitters and manufacturers of a wide ranges of fabric types.

Due to increased demand for our services, where development of "products" was still an integral and important part of the business, as well as increased volumes in both Dyeing and Finishing, it was necessary to relocate to larger premises.

This relocation, to Hyde in Cheshire, took place in 1990. At the same time, there was a significant investment in processing equipment.

In 1992, Shirley Dyeing and Finishing became a Limited Company, but a wholly owned subsidiary of BTTG.

With a current workforce of 24, and ongoing investment, the Company continues to offer a full range of services.

A comprehensive range of machinery allows the processing of fabrics from 80 cms to 2.5 metres wide, in short lengths as well as larger volumes.

Fabrics from as light as 40gm² and as heavy as 1200gm² can be processed; ranging from different types of silk to heavy belting fabrics.

The Company's strengths lie in the ability to work with customers, (which include some of the largest fabric manufacturers in Europe); to develop new lines; its flexibility and versatility and its excellent customer service relations.
